HOW COVID BROUGHT DOWN GHANA ECONOMY

Following the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic over the last eight months, the world's economies are on their knees. A the number of studies have been carried out on the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on developed countries, with little attention paid to developing countries, which are still dealing with the coronavirus's negative effects. The aim of this research is to determine the socioeconomic effect of COVID-19 on Ghana's economy, as well as the government's response to the pandemic and policy options for reviving the country's ailing economy.


The results of the discourse study showed that the coronavirus pandemic has had a negative effect on Ghana's citizens' socioeconomic situation. Though an estimated 42,000 people lost their employment in Ghana within the first two months of the pandemic, the country's tourist attraction sector alone lost $171 million in the last three months as a result of the country's partial lockdown and closure of tourism and hospitality centers.


According to the report, Ghana's healthcare system has been overwhelmed by the rising number of cases, to the point that temporary facilities are being used as pandemic isolation and treatment centers. According to the report, Ghana can transform the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic into prospects and opportunities by investing heavily in the health sector and providing support for small and medium-sized businesses, which employ a large number of Ghanaians.
